Ok....during our Xmas break last week. We decided to try out this new form of cleansing and de-stressing of our weary bodies due to a certain small typhoon, namely Hurrican Juliette.
So off we went to try this place call Dr. Fish Spa. Weird name rite? Even more so, to actually clean your body, you are served as fish food to hundreds of fish. Hehehe....i kid you not.
Here's the low down. For RM 40.00 we are served as fish bait for 1 hour in a pool which can sit about 4 comfortably.
The fish are suppose to be from Turkey and they are toothless, so they suck all the dead skin off of your body....cool eh heheheh !
For more information on the fish go
here.
Here is a short summary from the link above.
It seems that
Doctor fish is the name given to two
species of
fish:
Garra rufa and
Cyprinion macrostomus. Other nicknames include
nibble fish,
kangal fish, and
doctorfishen; in non-medical contexts,
Garra rufa is called the
reddish log sucker. They live and breed in the outdoor pools of some
Turkish spas, where they feed on the
skin of patients with
psoriasis. The fish are like
combfishes in that they only consume the affected and dead areas of the skin, leaving the healthy skin to grow, with the outdoor location of the treatment bringing beneficial effects. The spas are not meant as a treatment option, only as a temporary cure for symptoms, and patients usually revisit the spas every few months.
So we went in and had our selves "Cleansed" as per se.
It was a very "Geli" or ticklish for my wife but for me....its kinda weird. The fishes were bigger than the wikipedia's version. My only gripe is the damn thing keeps aiming for my nipples ! hahahhahaha....
All in all it was an eye opener for me. They say there is a similar operations in Pavilion KL but only for the feet. Here in Melaka, the Dr. Fish Spa goes all the way.
