Acer Aspire 4520 and Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon

Ok...so i just managed to "Finally" install Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon on to my Acer Aspire 4520 Lappie.

Few months back, when i got my laptop in Sept'07 i could not install it in, it seems there were some driver issues that were not iron-ed out and which version to use.

So last week i downloaded the Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon 64-bit AMD version and installed it via the safe graphic mode.

After that i proceeded to follow the instructions laid out by this guy Elf.

Link = http://oedha.blogspot.com/2007/11/acer-aspire-4520-tried-to-kill-me2.html

After that i had to do a little tweaking a bit on the wifi to get it working.

Instead of the instructions there, i had to download wicd, acer-acpi and also acerwificontroller.

There is a difference though, with the Ubuntu 7.04 it will be hard to get the stuff via repositories, but with the 7.10 it was easy as pie.

So after that, i could use all the features and also the multimedia capabilities of the laptop.

Initially i used wifi-radar and it did not worked with WPA2, only WEP. With the wicd i could get the WPA2 to work altogether.

The informations from the link above were excellent though.

I got it decorated with ubuntu studio themes and all was good.

Typing this out using it :)
